Heart & Soles
The South Franklin Charge coordinate this local mission with support from Mont Alto UMC, Quincy UMC, and Central Baptist Church to benefit children who are in need of shoes and other apparel. Heart & Soles serves New Franklin and Mowrey elementary schools.
Volunteers work with the local school district to provide free math tutoring to students during the school year. Families seeking assistance can contact the church office for details.
The Prayer Shawl has a centuries-old history of symbolizing God’s love, comfort and protection. Various forms of Prayer Shawls are referenced in the Bible and represent a range of spiritual purposes. Prayer Shawls are given to family members, friends and others in need of physical, spiritual, and/or emotional healing and support. Each shawl undergoes a process of prayers before and during the making of each one as well as a blessing ceremony during a Sunday worship service. The Prayer Shawl recipient also receives a prayer and a blessing for courage, strength and healing. The shawl’s warmth and comfort serve as a constant reminder of Christ’s steadfast, loving embrace.
New Hope Shelter
This mission donates food, paper products and personal hygiene items to the New Hope Shelter in Waynesboro. Parishioners are encouraged to purchase a single item for donation each time they shop for groceries.
5th Sunday Offerings
This ministry provides an opportunity for the congregation at Mont Alto UMC to donate to a selected local organization on the 5th Sunday of any month. Ministries have included Waynesboro Community Human Services, Mont Alto Borough overdue electric bills, and New Hope Shelter, as well as many others.
Activities In the Park
Activities In the Park is a series of community outreach events offered several times a year at the Mont Alto Recreation Area or other borough venue. South Franklin (UMC) Charge and Central Baptist Church work with the Mont Alto Borough and the Mont Alto Volunteer Fire Department to provide free family-oriented fellowship and fun experiences.
Operation Christmas Child
Operation Christmas Child is a worldwide outreach program sponsored by Samaritan’s Purse®, an international, nondenominational Christian organization that provides a relief ministry. Each year, the churches in the South Franklin Charge collect items and packs shoeboxes for children who will become the recipients of these useful gift items. In 2020, our churches packed and shipped 60 boxes for distribution throughout the world.
Shares of Ministries
United Methodists are connectional people, in strong relationship with each other. We support the ministries of the United Methodist Church through prayer and financial support by our Shares of Ministry and special Sunday offerings.
Mission Trips and Efforts
Individuals within the two churches participate in mission trips to various states and countries. The churches become involved in fund-raising efforts for the mission efforts through individual gifts, special collections, and Vacation Bible School mission offerings.
